Blog prospectus: Outside the metroplex

Hello, my name is Gareth Callenby. I live in an apartment in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and work a 40-hour week at the airport. Though concrete, asphalt, and car fumes have their charms, I enjoy on the odd weekend exchanging sidewalks for wooded paths, streets for rivers, and, if I’m lucky, buildings for mountains.

I camp when I stay away: it is the cheapest means of sleeping anywhere, I have a closer communion with nature doing so. Because of the length of the weekend, along with higher fuel prices, I usually travel only a tank of gas away from home or less. Through this blog, I seek to perhaps give ideas to those DFWites who are in a similar situation to my own.

I will write both a review and a narrative of each trip. The reviews will be the more useful portion of the blog. The narrative supplements the review; my subjective experience reveals what personal biases inform the review.

Sweltering weather has kept me home most weekends, but that should allow me to backlog some trips I made earlier this year. Come back next week for a review of a trip to the (possibly) pre-Columbian Viking runestone in Oklahoma.
